The whole Secret Santa brief, inside the limit.Secret Santa under £15

The best Secret Santa food gift under £15 is one good, full-size thing rather than a bag of small cheap ones. A 280g jar of single-origin raw honey fits the limit with room for a tag: five of our six single jars are £10.99 and Heather is £12.99 (prices correct at time of writing). It suits a colleague you barely know, it is not one of the 14 allergens UK food law makes businesses declare, and it keeps very well and remains safe to eat well beyond its best-before date, so nobody has to eat it by Boxing Day.

Below: what the research on gift prices says, food ideas at each step of the £15 ladder, six office-proof rules, which jar suits which colleague, and how three of you can share one order and get free UK delivery.

## The £15 ladder: food ideas at three price points

Whether your office has set the limit at £5, £10 or £15, the rule is the same: the higher the limit, the less you should split it. Five things at three pounds each look generous on the table and end up in the drawer; one thing at fifteen pounds gets used. Here is how we would spend each band if the brief is food.

Up to £5### One treat, done properly

- A single bar of bean-to-bar chocolate rather than a selection box
- A small bag of loose-leaf tea from a local shop
- One jar of flaky sea salt for the colleague who cooks

£5 to £10### Something for the store cupboard

- A good chutney or relish to go with Christmas cheese
- A bag of freshly roasted coffee beans, whole or ground
- A bottle of proper vinegar or a small bottle of olive oil

£10 to £15### A full-size jar of honey

- [金合欢](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e9%87%91%e5%90%88%e6%ac%a2%e8%9c%9c/), [林登](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e6%a4%b4%e6%a0%91%e8%9c%9c/), Sunflower, Wildflower or Soft Set: £10.99
- [海瑟](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e7%9f%b3%e5%8d%97%e8%8a%b1%e8%9c%82%e8%9c%9c/): £12.99
- Every jar 280g; prices correct at time of writing

The top rung leaves two or three pounds for wrapping and a tag, which is the right amount to spend on wrapping. If your office limit is £10, the honey sits just above it; a bean-to-bar chocolate bar and a nice card is the honest alternative, and you can save the jar for someone on your own list.

## Why spending less rarely costs you anything

84%In 1993 the economist Joel Waldfogel asked students to value the non-cash Christmas presents they had received. On average they put them at about 84% of what the givers had paid, and gifts from people further away socially, such as aunts, uncles and grandparents, did worst. That is exactly the position a Secret Santa giver is in: buying for someone you only half know. The American Economic Association's [summary of the deadweight loss study](https://www.aeaweb.org/research/did-holiday-gift-giving-just-create-loss) is candid that the sample was 86 Yale students, so read it as a direction rather than a law.

A second strand of research says the price you pay matters less than you fear. Frank Flynn and Gabrielle Adams found across three studies, including birthday and graduation gifts, that givers expected more expensive presents to be more appreciated, while recipients reported no such link. Stanford's write-up of the work, published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, puts it plainly:

> "They'll more than likely just be happy to get any gift at all."Gabrielle Adams, quoted in [Stanford Graduate School of Business](https://www.gsb.stanford.edu/index%2Ephp/node/374621)

Put the two findings together and the Secret Santa strategy writes itself: stay inside the limit, and buy something with a high chance of being used by almost anyone. Food that keeps is one of the few categories that clears that bar.

## Six rules for an office-proof food gift

The food gifts that survive an office swap, rather than ending up on the raffle table in January, tend to follow the same six rules.

1. **Check the 14 allergens first.** UK food law requires businesses to declare 14 regulated allergens, from celery and gluten to peanuts, sesame and tree nuts, as the government's [food allergy advice for consumers](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/food-allergy-and-intolerance-advice-for-consumers/food-allergy-and-intolerance-advice-for-consumers) sets out. Pure honey is not on that list, which is why it travels well round an office where you do not know who avoids what. Nut brittle and anything with sesame is a gamble.
2. **Remember the vegans.** Honey is an animal product, so it is the wrong pick for a vegan colleague. If you are not sure, chocolate made without milk is the safer swap.
3. **Skip the alcohol unless you know them.** Plenty of people do not drink, for reasons they would rather not explain at the office party.
4. **Pick something shelf-stable.** Secret Santa gifts sit on desks, in bags and on train luggage racks. Honey needs no fridge, and our guide to [蜂蜜会不会过期](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e8%9c%82%e8%9c%9c%e4%bc%9a%e8%bf%87%e6%9c%9f%e5%90%97/) explains why it keeps so well.
5. **One full-size thing beats a sampler.** Minis feel like a party bag. A full jar says you chose it.
6. **Add one line on the tag.** "Try it on hot buttered toast" or "Stir into your 3pm tea" turns a jar into a gift. Recipients use what they have been told how to use.

## Which honey for which colleague

Every office has the same six people. This is the matching we use when friends ask us what to put in their Secret Santa.

All six jars are 280g. Not sure? Acacia is the safest single pick for someone you have spoken to twice.

## Why we would put Acacia in the hat

If we had to buy one jar blind for a stranger, it would be 金合欢. It comes from the acacia (black locust) forests of Transylvania, where our family has kept bees for six generations, and it is the jar we hand first to anyone who tells us they do not like honey. It is pale, gentle and slow to crystallise, so it stays easy to drizzle through the winter, and it works in tea, on porridge and on toast without asking anything of the person who receives it.

That is the whole job of a Secret Santa gift: be useful to someone whose habits you can only guess.

![A jar of HoneyBee and Co. acacia honey with a blank kraft gift tag tied to the lid with string, a teacup behind it](https://honeybeeandco.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/c27-01-secret-santa-honey-gifts-acacia-tag.jpg "Secret Santa Food Gifts Under £15 That Nobody Quietly Regifts 2")A tag that tells them what to do with it does more work than the wrapping paper.

## The under-£15 pick: Acacia Honey

Raw, single-origin Acacia from Transylvania, 280g. Mild enough for the honey sceptic, good enough for the food lover, and £10.99 at the time of writing, which leaves room in a £15 limit for paper and a tag.

## Reading a honey label in ten seconds

If you are buying honey for Secret Santa anywhere, not just from us, the label tells you most of what you need. Under [regulation 17 of the Honey (England) Regulations 2015](https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2015/1348/regulation/17), honey cannot be sold unless the label names the country where it was harvested. When it comes from more than one country, the law allows the phrase "blend of honeys from more than one country" instead. The same regulation only lets a jar name a flower if the honey comes wholly or mainly from it.

So the ten-second check is: one named country and one named flower usually means a single-origin honey with a flavour of its own; a blend statement usually means a supermarket blend built for consistency. Both are honey, but only one is a gift with a story. Our [guide to honey gifts in the UK](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e8%8b%b1%e5%9b%bd%e8%9c%82%e8%9c%9c%e7%a4%bc%e5%93%81/) goes further into what makes a jar worth giving.

**Wrapping on a budget.** Every jar we send is already wrapped in paper sheets and tied with cotton thread, with a paper label applied by hand, as our [packaging page](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e6%88%91%e4%bb%ac%e7%9a%84%e5%8f%af%e6%8c%81%e7%bb%ad%e5%8c%85%e8%a3%85%e4%b8%8d%e6%96%ad%e6%94%b9%e8%bf%9b/) describes. Plenty of people put it in the hat exactly as it arrives, with a brown tag added. No plastic tape, nothing to recycle but paper and glass.

## Pool the order, get free delivery

Here is the practical trick. Delivery is free across the UK on 3 or more jars on any order type, so if three people in the same office are buying Secret Santa presents, one of you orders three jars and everyone pays their share. Each gift still comes in under £15, and the shared order means nobody pays postage on their jar.

Standard delivery takes 2 to 5 working days. For December, allow that window plus a buffer before the office party, and check [our delivery and returns page](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e9%80%81%e8%b4%a7%e9%80%80%e8%b4%a7/) for the current last order dates. Returns are accepted within 30 days on unopened jars. If you work for the NHS, our [15% NHS 折扣](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/nhs/) applies too.

Organising the whole team's gifts, or buying for clients rather than colleagues? That is a different brief; our [企业送礼](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e4%bc%81%e4%b8%9a%e9%80%81%e7%a4%bc/) page covers larger orders, and [our gift sets](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e8%9c%82%e8%9c%9c%e7%a4%bc%e5%93%81%e5%a5%97%e8%a3%85/) suit the people on your list who deserve more than £15.

## Questions people ask

Is a jar of honey too boring for Secret Santa?Only if it is the same jar they already have. A named single-origin honey with a tasting note on the tag reads as a choice. Pair it with one line about how to use it and it rarely feels generic.

Can I give honey if I do not know about allergies?Pure honey is not one of the 14 allergens that UK businesses must declare, which makes it one of the safer food gifts for an office. It is not suitable for vegans, and anyone with a known reaction to bee products should avoid it. If in doubt, ask the organiser quietly.

What if my colleague has a baby at home? The jar is fine for the adults. Honey must never be given to babies under one year old, so it is worth adding that to the tag if you know there is a newborn in the house.

Will the honey have set by the time it is opened? Most raw honey crystallises in time; it is a natural sign it has not been heavily processed. Acacia is slow to crystallise, and if any jar sets, a warm water bath brings it back. Our guide to [液态蜂蜜与凝固蜂蜜](https://honeybeeandco.uk/zh/%e6%b6%b2%e6%80%81%e8%9c%82%e8%9c%9c%e4%b8%8e%e5%87%9d%e5%9b%ba%e8%9c%82%e8%9c%9c/) explains the difference.

Is there a cheaper honey gift for a £10 limit? Our smallest jar is the full 280g size, so it sits just above a £10 limit. In that case we would honestly suggest a good chocolate bar instead and keep the honey for someone else on your list.
