Walking 50 km for SEEd: A Journey Towards Environmental Education

Introduction

As the sun rises over the picturesque landscape of Runnymede, our founder, Dragos Nistor will walk 50 kilometers from Runnymede to Fulham in London, all in the name of environmental sustainability. This charity fundraiser is not just about covering the distance; it’s about raising awareness and supporting a cause that holds the key to our planet’s future. The Event is due to take place on the 30th of March 2024.

SEEd Young Changemakers: Nurturing Sustainability Leaders

The SEEd Young Changemakers program is more than just an educational initiative; it’s a transformative experience for young minds. Designed for secondary education students, this year-long program equips them with essential knowledge, understanding, and skills to create a sustainable present and future. Let’s delve into the heart of this remarkable initiative:

Sense of Agency: SEEd Young Changemakers empowers students to take charge. They choose, design, and lead their own sustainability projects, fostering a sense of agency. Whether it’s improving biodiversity, reducing waste, or promoting renewable energy, these young changemakers are at the forefront of positive change.

Holistic Learning: Beyond textbooks, students explore real-world systems. They learn how to make change happen, collaborate in teams, and develop essential soft skills. The program bridges the gap between theory and practice, connecting classroom knowledge to practical solutions.

Community Engagement: SEEd Young Changemakers isn’t confined to school walls. It collaborates with environmental organizations, businesses, and local authorities. Students witness sustainability in action, forging connections that extend beyond the classroom.

Impact and Projects

The impact of SEEd Young Changemakers reverberates across the UK. Currently engaging over 250 students, the programme is expanding rapidly. Schools in London and other countries are signing up, eager to participate. Here are some inspiring projects:

Biodiversity and Rewilding: Students transform their school sites into havens for wildlife. From planting native species to creating habitats, they contribute to a healthier ecosystem.

Growing Food: Sustainable agriculture takes root as students cultivate food on campus. They learn about food systems, reduce food miles, and promote healthy eating.

Waste Reduction: Initiatives like litter cleanup and second-hand uniform recycling reduce waste. These small steps collectively make a big difference.

SEEd Students

Renewable Energy: Schools explore solar panels, wind turbines, and energy-efficient practices. They become beacons of sustainable energy solutions.

Swap Shops: Lunchtime becomes an opportunity for sustainable fashion. Students set up swap shops, exchanging clothes and promoting reuse.

Your Role in Empowering Young Changemakers

You can be part of this transformative journey. Here’s how:

Sponsorship: £100 sponsors a team of 4 to 5 young people in their sustainability project.

Subsidize Schools:
£500 helps a state school become part of Young Changemakers.
£2500 to subsidise 5 schools working together in a cluster in London
£5,000 pays for a local coordinator working with the cluster of schools and their local community collaborators.

As our dedicated walker covers those 50 kilometres, they carry not only their footsteps but also the hope for a sustainable future. Join us in supporting SEEd and nurturing the environmental leaders of tomorrow. Together, we can create ripples of change that extend far beyond Fulham’s finish line.
