Your Questions, Answered

Everything you might want to know about our raw honey, deliveries, subscriptions, and the six generations of beekeeping behind every jar.

01 · Our Honey

About Our Honey

What's in the jar, where it comes from, and how it's made. Honest answers about raw honey.

Is your honey raw?

Yes. Every jar we sell is raw and unpasteurised. Our honey is cold-extracted and never heated above hive temperature, which sits around 40°C. This preserves the natural enzymes, pollen, and antioxidants that make raw honey nutritionally distinct from the heated, ultra-filtered honey found on most supermarket shelves.

Is your honey British or imported?

Both. Our Wildflower, Soft Set, and Heather honeys are British, sourced from our SALSA-certified British honey supplier. Our Acacia, Sunflower, and Linden honeys come from our family's apiaries in Transylvania, Romania, where the Nistor family has kept bees for six generations.

Every honey is single-origin and traceable to a specific named region. We never blend honeys from multiple countries, which is the standard practice for most large brands.

Is your honey sustainable and ethically produced?

Yes. We work directly with ethical beekeepers across Britain and our family in Romania, support bee-friendly habitats, and use eco-conscious packaging. Our jars are recyclable glass and we are very close to fully plastic-free packaging.

Our British honey supplier holds SALSA Certification, a nationally recognised food safety standard overseen by the Institute of Food Science and Technology. This means every British jar meets rigorous safety and quality requirements that go beyond minimum regulatory standards.

What is raw honey actually made of?

Raw honey is mostly natural sugars, fructose and glucose, with smaller amounts of sucrose and maltose. Beyond the sugars, every jar contains trace minerals, vitamins, organic acids, antioxidant compounds, and crucially the enzymes the bees produce inside the hive.

It is the enzymes and antioxidants that make raw honey distinct. When honey is heated above 40°C, those enzymes are permanently destroyed. We never pasteurise.

Does your honey contain added sugar or syrups?

No. We never add sugar, corn syrup, fructose syrup, or any other sweetener to our honey. All sweetness comes naturally from the nectar the bees collect.

This matters more than it sounds. In March 2023, the European Commission's Joint Research Centre tested 320 batches of honey arriving at EU borders and flagged 46 percent as suspected of being adulterated with sugar syrups. Our supply chain is short, traceable, and tested. There is no incentive and no opportunity for adulteration.

How much water does your honey contain?

Our raw honeys typically contain between 15 and 19 percent moisture. This range is the sweet spot for honey: low enough to prevent fermentation, high enough to remain pourable and flavourful.

Many mass-produced honeys contain considerably more water, which is usually a sign that the honey has been over-diluted or harvested too early before the bees have finished evaporating the nectar properly.

Is raw honey safe to eat?

Raw honey is safe for healthy older children and adults when consumed in moderation. Two important caveats apply.

First, raw honey should never be given to babies under 12 months because of the risk of infant botulism. This applies to all raw honey, not only ours.

Second, raw honey should not be heated above approximately 40°C if you want to preserve its natural enzymes and antioxidants. You can still cook with it, but consider that high heat changes the nutritional profile.

Is your honey suitable for vegetarians and vegans?

Our honey is suitable for vegetarians. It is not vegan, as honey is an animal product produced by bees. Some vegans choose to consume honey from small ethical apiaries; others do not. We respect both positions.

02 · Delivery

Delivery

Dispatched from the UK via Royal Mail, packed in recyclable glass with eco-conscious materials.

How long does UK delivery take?

Standard UK delivery typically arrives within 2 to 5 working days from the dispatch date. Once your order is on its way, you will receive a confirmation email with tracking details.

When do you dispatch orders?

We process and pack orders Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm. Orders placed outside these hours, or over the weekend, are dispatched on the next working day.

Is UK delivery free?

Free UK delivery is automatic on orders of three or more jars and on every subscription order regardless of quantity.

For one or two jars, standard UK delivery is calculated at checkout based on your basket. The exact cost is displayed before you complete your order.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently ship to UK addresses only via Royal Mail. International shipping is not available at this time.

If you would like us to consider shipping to your country in the future, please email us at [email protected]. We track requests and use them to plan future expansion.

What happens if my order has not arrived?

If your order has not arrived within seven days of dispatch, please contact us with your order number at [email protected] or via our contact form.

We will investigate immediately with Royal Mail and either resend your order or issue a full refund. You should not have to chase your honey, and we treat missing parcels as our problem to solve.

How is the honey packaged for shipping?

Every jar is packed in recyclable glass with eco-conscious cushioning materials inside a recyclable cardboard outer. We are very close to achieving fully plastic-free packaging.

Honey is heavy and glass is fragile. We pack defensively, which is why breakages in transit are rare. When they do happen, we replace the jar at no cost to you.

03 · Returns

Returns & Refunds

Honey is a perishable food, so the rules differ from clothing or electronics. Here is how it works.

My jar arrived damaged. What should I do?

Email [email protected] within seven days of receiving the order and include:

  • Your order number
  • A brief description of the damage
  • A photo of the damaged jar (this helps us with the courier claim)

We will replace the jar or issue a refund, whichever you prefer. You do not need to return the damaged jar; please dispose of it safely at home.

Can I return honey if I changed my mind?

Honey is a perishable food product, so we cannot accept returns of opened jars under any circumstances. Unopened jars in their original condition may be returned within 14 days of receipt for a refund or replacement. Please contact us first before sending anything back.

My order is wrong. What should I do?

If you received the wrong honey or the wrong quantity, email [email protected] within seven days of receiving the order. We will send the correct product immediately and arrange the return of the incorrect item at our cost.

Who pays for return postage?

If the product is damaged, faulty, or we sent the wrong item, we cover return postage. If you are returning an unopened jar because you changed your mind, the return postage is paid by you.

We recommend using a tracked service for any return so it can be located if it goes missing in transit.

How long do refunds take?

Once we receive your return or confirm a damaged-jar claim, we issue refunds within three to five working days. The refund is processed back to your original payment method. Bank processing times can add a further three to five working days before the funds appear in your account.

04 · Subscriptions

Subscriptions

A simple way to get raw honey delivered on your schedule, with 20% off every order and free UK delivery on every box.

How does the honey subscription work?

Choose your honey, set your delivery frequency, and save 20 percent on every order automatically. Every subscription order ships with free UK delivery, regardless of quantity.

Subscribers also receive early access to seasonal and limited harvests before they go on general sale. Browse the available options on our subscription page.

When am I charged?

You are charged for your first order at checkout. After that, you are charged automatically on the same date each delivery period. So a monthly subscription started on the 12th charges and ships on the 12th of every following month.

You receive an email reminder a few days before each renewal so there are no surprises.

Can I pause or cancel my subscription?

Yes, at any time and without penalty. Sign in to your account, go to Subscriptions, and pause, cancel, or restart with one click. Pauses can run for as long as you need; cancellation is permanent but you can always start a new subscription later.

Can I change the variety or frequency?

Yes. From the Subscriptions area in your account you can switch the honey variety, change delivery frequency, update quantity, or change the delivery address. Changes take effect on your next renewal.

What happens if I run out before my next delivery?

You can either order extra one-off jars from the shop or speed up your subscription by changing the frequency. If you find you regularly run out before the renewal date, shortening the cycle by a week or two usually solves it.

Why subscribe instead of ordering one-off?

Three reasons. First, you save 20 percent on every order, which adds up over a year. Second, every subscription order ships free regardless of quantity, so the smaller orders that would normally cost delivery do not. Third, you get first access to limited harvests like our annual single-harvest Heather honey, which sometimes sells out before reaching general listing.

You can cancel any time, so there is no real lock-in. The only commitment is to yourself, that you will keep raw honey in the kitchen.

05 · Discounts

Discounts & Offers

NHS, Blue Light Card, newsletter signup, and how to make the most of every offer.

How does the NHS discount work?

NHS staff receive a 15 percent lifetime discount on every order. To activate it, sign up to our newsletter using your NHS email address. We automatically detect NHS email domains and send you the NHS15 code.

The discount has no minimum spend and no expiry. Use it as often as you like for as long as you have the email address. Read more on the NHS Discount page.

How does the Blue Light Card discount work?

Holders of a valid Blue Light Card receive a 15 percent discount on every order. Visit the Blue Light Card page on our site to claim the code.

This applies to emergency services, NHS staff, social care workers, and the armed forces. As with the NHS discount, there is no minimum spend.

How do I get the newsletter discount?

Sign up to our newsletter and we send you a NEWSLETTER10 code worth 10 percent off your first order. The signup form appears as a popup on first visit and is also available in the footer of every page.

The newsletter code is one-use per customer. After your first order, the NHS or Blue Light Card discount becomes the better choice if you qualify.

Can I combine discount codes?

No. Only one discount code can be applied per order. The code that gives the largest saving is usually the best to use.

Discount codes also do not stack with subscription pricing. Subscription orders already receive 20 percent off automatically, which is more than any of our codes give.

Do you offer corporate or bulk discounts?

Yes. For corporate gifting, wholesale, or bulk orders we offer tiered pricing based on quantity. Visit our corporate gifting page or email [email protected] with your requirements and we will send a quote within one working day.

06 · Storage

Storage & Use

How to keep your honey at its best, and what to do when it crystallises.

Why has my honey crystallised?

Crystallisation is a natural process and a sign of authentic raw honey. As honey cools or sits, the glucose component naturally separates and forms small crystals. The honey is not spoiled and is perfectly safe to eat.

Different honeys crystallise at different rates. Sunflower and Soft Set honeys crystallise quickly. Acacia and Linden stay liquid for many months. Heather has a unique gel-like consistency and is the slowest to crystallise of all.

If supermarket honey never crystallises, it is usually because it has been ultra-filtered, pasteurised, or both. Treat permanent liquidity as a warning sign rather than a quality indicator.

How do I de-crystallise my honey?

Place the closed jar in a bowl of warm water (not boiling, which destroys the enzymes). Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally once the lid loosens. The crystals dissolve and the honey returns to a liquid state.

You can also leave the jar somewhere consistently warm, like on top of a radiator or in an airing cupboard, for a few hours. Avoid the microwave, which can heat unevenly and damage the enzymes that make raw honey worth buying.

How long does honey keep?

Properly stored, raw honey effectively keeps indefinitely. Honey recovered from sealed pots in Ancient Egyptian tombs has been found still edible after thousands of years. The high sugar content and low water activity make it inhospitable to bacteria.

That said, every jar carries a best-before date for legal reasons in the UK. The flavour is at its peak within 18 to 24 months of harvest. After that the honey may crystallise and the flavour may mellow, but it remains safe to eat far beyond the printed date.

Should I refrigerate honey?

No, never refrigerate honey. Cold temperatures accelerate crystallisation, making the honey thick and difficult to use. Honey is happiest at room temperature, somewhere between 18 and 22°C, in a cupboard away from direct sunlight. The jar lid kept tightly closed prevents moisture absorption.

Can I bake or cook with raw honey?

Yes. Honey is wonderful in baking, marinades, dressings, and sauces. Worth knowing: heating raw honey above 40°C destroys the enzymes that make it nutritionally distinct. So while it tastes excellent in baked goods, the heated honey is no longer "raw" in the strictest sense.

For maximum flavour and nutritional benefit, drizzle raw honey over finished dishes after cooking, or stir into warm (not hot) drinks. Use a less expensive honey for baking and reserve your premium varieties for raw use.

07 · Account

Account & Orders

Tracking, payments, and how to get in touch when you need us.

How do I track my order?

You receive a dispatch email with a Royal Mail tracking link the moment your order leaves us. You can also sign in to your account at any time to see the status of every order, current and past.

Tracking typically updates within a few hours of dispatch. If your tracking shows no movement after 24 hours, it usually means Royal Mail has the parcel but has not yet scanned it into the system. Contact us if it persists.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna for spread payments, and Stripe Link.

All payments are processed via secure encrypted gateways. We never see or store your full card details.

Is your checkout secure?

Yes. The entire site is served over HTTPS with TLS encryption. Card payments are processed by Stripe and PayPal, both of which are PCI-DSS Level 1 certified, the highest level of payment security available.

We never store your full card number on our systems. We hold only the last four digits for reference, which is the same standard your bank uses on statements.

How do I contact you?

Email is the fastest route. Send any question to [email protected] and we typically reply within one working day, often within a few hours.

You can also use the form on our contact page. For partnership, press, or wholesale enquiries, please mention so in the subject line.

Still have a question?

If your question is not covered above, get in touch. We answer every email personally and usually within a working day.
