Every so often a partnership starts not with a contract but with a gift. During a visit to her studio in Burgas, Bulgaria, the contemporary painter known simply as SILVI handed us a bumblebee painting she had made by hand, in recognition of our work on sustainability and our educational content about bumblebees and the pollinators we all depend on. This is the story of that painting, the artist behind it, and how you can bring her nature-inspired work home.

Key takeaways

  • SILVI is a contemporary painter from Burgas, Bulgaria, exhibited at the Louvre in Paris.
  • She painted a bumblebee for HoneyBee & Co. as a thank you for our bee-education and sustainability work.
  • Her style, which she calls Abstract Splash Figurativism, turns spontaneous paint into clear figurative forms.
  • Much of her work is nature-led: animals, marine life, and florals across several series.
  • Her art is available as originals, hand-embellished canvas prints from €105, and fine art paper prints from €14.

The bumblebee painting

We did not commission it and we did not ask for it. On a visit to SILVI's studio, surrounded by canvases in every stage of becoming, she showed us a piece she had been working on: a bumblebee, rendered in her signature style, where thrown and spilled paint resolves into a form you recognise instantly. She gave it to us as an acknowledgement of the work HoneyBee & Co. does for pollinators, from championing raw, traceable honey to publishing an ever-growing library of educational content on Britain's bees.

It was, frankly, a moving thing to receive. A bumblebee is the emblem at the centre of everything we do, and to see one interpreted by a painter of SILVI's talent, in a work made entirely by hand, felt like the truest kind of partnership: two makers who care about the natural world, meeting in the middle.

Who is SILVI?

SILVI is a contemporary painter based in Burgas, on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, and a graduate of the National Academy of Art. She works in a style she coined herself, Abstract Splash Figurativism, in which spontaneous, uncontrolled movements of paint give way to controlled figurative forms. In her own words:

The paint moves freely, beyond full control, choosing its own direction. Once it dries, it reveals what it has become.SILVI The Artist

Her reputation has grown quickly. She has exhibited at the Louvre in Paris and at The Holy Art Gallery in London, been named a finalist in the MOST art competition, and been featured across Bulgarian national media including Nova TV and bTV. Each original is made by hand in her studio and ships worldwide with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. You can read her full story on her About page.

A body of work rooted in nature

What drew us to SILVI, beyond the bumblebee, is how much of her work turns to the natural world. Her paintings are organised into series, and several of them speak directly to the things we care about: Wild, full of animals and dynamic energy; Nature Instincts, where spilled and thrown paint becomes organic form; Liquid Bloom, floral and fluid; and the Fish Series of marine subjects. There is even a painting called Nectar, which felt like a small wink from the universe.

Hand-embellished canvas prints

Original paintings are one of a kind and priced accordingly, from around €3,000 into five figures. But the piece of SILVI's offering we find most interesting, and the most accessible way to own her work, is her hand-embellished canvas prints.

These are not posters and not ordinary photo prints. Each begins as a reproduction of an original painting on premium 350gsm canvas, and then SILVI applies real paint by hand, in relief, following the brushwork of the original. The result has genuine raised texture and physical depth: the surface feels like a painting because, in part, it is one. Each is gallery-wrapped, ready to hang, and shipped worldwide by DHL Express from her Burgas studio. Prices start from €105, with fine art paper prints from €14 for those starting smaller.

Inside the studio

We spent an afternoon in SILVI's studio in Burgas, and it is exactly the kind of place you hope an artist's studio will be: canvases stacked and hung on every wall, paint everywhere, and works in progress that shift the moment the light changes. Here are a few moments from the visit.

It was painted by SILVI, a contemporary artist from Burgas, Bulgaria, who works in a style she calls Abstract Splash Figurativism. She gave it to HoneyBee & Co. in recognition of our work on sustainability and bee education.

What is a hand-embellished canvas print?

It is a reproduction of an original SILVI painting, printed on premium 350gsm canvas, that the artist then finishes by hand with real paint applied in relief. Does SILVI ship internationally?

Yes. Every piece ships worldwide by DHL Express from her studio in Burgas, Bulgaria, with tracked delivery. Originals are boxed and protected, and prints are rolled in a rigid tube or gallery-wrapped as appropriate.

Where can I see more of SILVI's work?

The full collection is on her shop, with her story and portfolio at silvitheartist.com, and new pieces regularly on her Instagram.
